Taiwanese Call Center Scammers Busted

by Call Center Gal on August 21, 2010

First, it was the Indian call center agent that was tagged as one call center scammer. Now, Pattaya police busted these Taiwanese Call Center Scammers that are believed to be responsible for a well known call center banking scam.

At approximately 11:00am on Friday, Major General Niwat Rattana Thammawat along with Colonel Somnuk Changate from the Banglamung Police Station instigated a search and arrest warrant on a residential house in Soi Khao Noi, Banglamung.

A warrant was issued on the premises after various reports stipulated that the location was be being used as a base for an illegal call-center scamming operation. Allegedly, a group of largely Taiwanese nationals had been scamming both Thai and foreign customers into revealing private banking information under the pretence of being an official or representative of a bank or credit union.

In the mentioned search and arrest warrant, Thai police confiscated 8 notebooks, 20 telephones, internet modems, routers, ATM cards and bankbooks.

I believe that this is high time for local police officers to really be vigilant in implementing these so called call center operations especially if they are operating in such a small scale, whether in house or virtual call center ones. This is to make sure that they are doing only legitimate business and are only employing these call center agents in accordance with the law.
