Thinking of Call Center Year End Parties

by Call Center Gal on October 3, 2010

It is the time of the year again. If you are working in a call center you would have experienced how hard it is to work everyday, much as how they also party hard. I can say that year end parties are really meant to be the biggest gathering of the call center employees, don’t you agree?

Hardware Account in Call Centers

by Call Center Gal on October 9, 2010

It is very interesting to know that we call center jobs would cater to a lot of business segments.

There are some accounts that cater to clothing, fashion and funky accessories. There are also some that covers technical stuff for information, order and repair. Would you believe that even purchasing door knobs can be an account in a call center?

If you will take calls for this client, then you have to be familiar on the different types of door knobs based on the need of the customer and the look and feel that they want for a unit. Quite interesting isn’t it?

Breaking the Ice with Visiting Clients

by Call Center Gal on October 9, 2010

Do you know who to ask or where to go should your visiting client asks for some gurkha cigars?

Well, that may be one of the casual questions your client may ask especially if he does smoke that type of cigar. Of course, he won’t open that question during team and account meetings. He might just have the guts to ask about it during breaks.

Maybe questions like those are also his way of breaking the ice and to let you feel more comfortable in your conversation. Just be mindful of keeping the boundary and not offer too much information, because remember, he is still your client.

Health Card in Call Centers

by Call Center Gal on October 10, 2010

Do you know if your call center gives you a health card as part of your benefit package?

In my opinion, that should be one of your concerns to consider as soon as you decided to apply for a call center job. Health concerns in a call center environment is no secret. Working for eight hours (or more) taking calls can easily drain your energy, especially that you have to take care of a lot of metrics while doing that.

Also, you are doing multitasking jobs while being timed for each interaction. Add the odd shift that you need to attend to as that adds stress up to a certain level. These things might not be a big deal for now, but this is something that we should all consider if we are working for a very dynamic work environment like that of call centers.

Leaving Your Electronic Gadgets On Lockers

by Call Center Gal on October 10, 2010

Unlike other offices, call centers have this kind of certain security measures that is quite unique if you will compare it with other businesses. You are only allowed to use your mobile phones and other electronic gadgets in certain areas in the office. You can place your gadgets on lockers and cabinet locks on some call center offices for safety. Also, some call centers have some public stations designated to drop off and pick up their gadgets before and after shift.

This is something that everyone should follow, in my opinion. Businesses like call centers have to be careful about their client’s data to establish trust and confidence. This is the same as how you would want to protect your job in the company. So the next time that you’ll be asked to leave your stuff, always make it a point to comply. As the saying goes, it is better to be safe than sorry.

UK Call Center: Woman Waited 12 Hours on Hold

by Call Center Gal on September 17, 2010

It is one of the responsibilities of a call centre agent to make sure that a call will be answered in the first few (1-3) rings, listen to the concern at hand and attend to the proper resolution of the concern.

But what happens when you let your customer wait for too long? Shouldn’t you be held responsible for that? Customers aren’t supposed to wait too long even if they have complex issues over the phone, don’t you agree?

That is why my heart goes to this woman who waited for 12 hours on hold according to this article:

A young mother had already been cut off 20 times while trying to reach a customer service call center.

She had first managed to reach someone at 11 p.m. and agreed to be put on hold while she waited for a technical support manager. She had reached a UK call center after waiting for the one in India, but was again put on hold.

A Virgin Media spokesman said her account would be credited 30 British pounds (about $46) as the company investigates what happened.

Okay, that might be a slice of the bigger picture, but in principle, that shouldn’t happen because customer also has their own life after these calls. Call centers are implementing this as a strict policy, to respect customers time and vice versa. Hence, this shouldn’t happen again, because no amount of credits, courtesy rates and money would amount to the lost time, especially if this is the only thing that these customer have.

Of Call Centers and Credit Reports

by Call Center Gal on September 17, 2010

When people get in touch with call centers to check on their credit reports, they know that they have to spend for it, as this is a vital information needed in a lot of things related to their finances.

Also, all these information should be held in strictest confidence because all these figures are really of personal nature. It is like they are entrusting their secrets to you with regard to their personal finance, so respect those facts and figures to uphold the integrity of the call centers that you are working for.

Melting the Excess Pounds Away After Work in the Call Center

by Call Center Gal on September 19, 2010

What can be some of the activities to do to achieve a healthier body while working in a call center? We can name a few, like going out after the shift to play badminton and basketball.

That can work out if you are not sleepy yet. You can also take some conjugated linoleic acid cla and swim the hours away, especially if you live in houses or condominium setup where access to swimming pool is available.

Also, you don’t need to go out anymore if your call center has a gym setup for use of staff and employees on board. This way, you can save up on other expenses while letting the fat melt away and go to your next shift in an alert and healthier state.

by Call Center Gal on September 19, 2010

Unusual Shift in Call Centers Causes Acne to Appear

by Call Center Gal on September 19, 2010

Most of the young call center agents have difficulty maintaining a flawless skin, especially in the face because of the sometimes unusual shift schedule. This forces a lot of them to take some time off even if they are not supposed to do so to have an immediate check up with their dermatologists or just plainly take some more time to rest.

If they have known that they can just click here to find some more resources on how to deal with acne as one of the most challenging concerns in their skin, then that would be nice.

Longing for another ‘long weekend’?

Do you already have plans on where to go after pressing the log out button on your AVAYA phone?

Grand Vacation Idea for Performing Call Center Agents

by Call Center Gal on September 5, 2010

If you are up to have a grand reward system for your team in the call center, you would want to give Branson vacation packages as the grand prize. This goes especially for the call center agents in the United States.

And why not? Aside from the fact that you will let them have a great time away from their daily call center work, you are also going to let them enjoy a lot of different interesting attractions around.

I specifically like the idea that you can customize your own vacation package and that really is something that other companies who are also into this thing doesn’t have. The flexibility of the itinerary will surely cater to whoever will be going there.

It seems that they cater to those who love to appreciate works of art in their museums. They also have fun park rides and thrills, that will hit the rush needed by some adventurous people. They even have cave and caverns and the standard movie family entertainment to match the different relaxation needs of these visitors. I would definitely want one for me should I be the top performer. How about you?

Documenting Call Center Parties and Events

by Call Center Gal on September 6, 2010

Every call center offices know how important it is to meet the client’s standards when it comes to quantity and quality of work. But when it is time to have fun, clients also know how to let you enjoy those moments and party hard.

That is why there are a lot of themed parties for different accounts, peppered with good food, music along with great gifts and prizes like digital cameras, psp, celfones, out of town trips and accommodations to name a few.

In these events, a lot of call center agents go out of their way to document their parties and events. There are even office digicams that can be used as long as you have it reserved prior to the event. Is this the same thing going on when you have your parties in the call center? Please share your experiences here.

Brazilian Call Center Agent Wins Lawsuit over Restroom Concerns

by Call Center Gal on September 12, 2010

When you work as a call center agent, you are given some rules to follow especially when it comes to observing the time for short breaks as well as your lunch break. But what happens when you have to really use the restroom during your working hours? Why can this be a reason for a possible law suit?

Those questions come to mind as I read the call center news lately about a Brazilian call center agent who just recently won a lawsuit against her employer over restroom concerns.

A labor court says in a statement that it ordered the employer to pay $2,200 to the 36-year-old woman, who said supervisors often blocked her from using the restroom and never allowed her to use it for more than five minutes at a time.

The unidentified woman said she also had to report how much time she spent in the bathroom and to ask for permission in front of other employees.

In my previous years of experience as an agent, we just need to ask permission to our Team Leader, floor walker or Workforce personnel for that purpose. Is that the same thing on your end? What are the policies that you need to follow when you need to use the restroom while you are taking calls?

Call Centers in the Philippines Now Come Home

by Call Center Gal on August 30, 2010

Is there truth to the fact that call centers now come home? If you are working for call centers in the Philippines, do you think this issue should affect you and your job security in anyway?

If you have been following this call center blog, you will read a lot of updates from me regarding the call center companies that closed down, like the Hilton Reservations Call Center, Sitel Birmingham Call Center, Sallie Mae Call Center, Convergys Call Center in Albuquerque, Centerpoint and Wells Fargo Call Center to name a  few, but those call centers are mostly located in the United States.

But if you observed the latest hiring scene in the Philippine Call Centers, you may find it truly amazing that a lot of US and UK based call centers still prefer to invest in the Philippines and grow their call center operations here. So if there are jobs leaving the Philippines and going back to the U.S or U.K., I can safely say that there’s still a balanced picture of getting and missing call center jobs everywhere nowadays.

Using the Knowledge I Got from a Call Center Job

by Call Center Gal on August 30, 2010

Have you thought about doing a work at home that is related closely with the work that you have in the call center before?

As for me, I was able to take care of our family’s microwave oven more now that I know the tips on how to better clean and keep it fully functional. My cousin also recommended my mom to get a refrigerator filter to make our water taste close to a bottled one and to have piece of mind that the water is also clean and safe to drink.

How about you? What tasks at home became easier in relation to your work in the call center?

National Heroes Day Holiday Pay

by Call Center Gal on August 30, 2010

If you work in a call center, you would have a two fold thing over holidays. You may be sad that this would mean missing one more day of rest and bond with your family and friends. But on the flipside, this would also mean more pay for a call center agent and this will really be realized as soon as these workers get their pay.

That is why it is but important to know how much you will be getting, as well as those who also did today’s work, on a National Heroes Day Holiday:

Call Center Clients Coming for a Business Visit

by Call Center Gal on August 31, 2010

How do you deal with clients that go to your call center for a business visit?

I know that it can really be very stressful in the beginning especially if this is the first time that they will go to your call center. You have to be prepared well enough, especially the people from operations and management to present the necessary data, reports, even present the latest account and team stats as (needed and) planned.

As for the travel this is usually tied up with the call center’s administration arrangement, as well as attend to his or her immediate needs from basic accommodations and necessities, even their Acid cigars for those who smoke and some recreational facilities that they might want to try while they are here.

Speaking of interacting with clients, how was your recent interaction with your account client the last time they were here?

Bed Bug Attacked Call Center

by Call Center Gal on September 4, 2010

How clean is your call center?

Well, I asked this because it is but important to always keep your call center operations floor neat and clean all the time. This goes beyond cleaning your computer keyboard and workstations, as these cleaning efforts should extend up to the sleeping areas and restrooms.

Speaking of keeping the call centers neat and clean, it is in the news that bedbugs attacked one call center that cause them to do some immediate clean up operation.

The bed bug epidemic that’s sweeping New York has even hit the city’s 311 call center. The call center in Lower Manhattan was fumigated Tuesday night after a bed bug was found in the facility on Friday.

A spokesman for 311 says there was no impact to the call center’s operations.

I just hope that this won’t happen in your call center. This will surely leave a bad impression to some future clients should the news spread around, don’t you think?

Taiwanese Call Center Scammers Busted

by Call Center Gal on August 21, 2010

First, it was the Indian call center agent that was tagged as one call center scammer. Now, Pattaya police busted these Taiwanese Call Center Scammers that are believed to be responsible for a well known call center banking scam.

At approximately 11:00am on Friday, Major General Niwat Rattana Thammawat along with Colonel Somnuk Changate from the Banglamung Police Station instigated a search and arrest warrant on a residential house in Soi Khao Noi, Banglamung.

A warrant was issued on the premises after various reports stipulated that the location was be being used as a base for an illegal call-center scamming operation. Allegedly, a group of largely Taiwanese nationals had been scamming both Thai and foreign customers into revealing private banking information under the pretence of being an official or representative of a bank or credit union.

In the mentioned search and arrest warrant, Thai police confiscated 8 notebooks, 20 telephones, internet modems, routers, ATM cards and bankbooks.

I believe that this is high time for local police officers to really be vigilant in implementing these so called call center operations especially if they are operating in such a small scale, whether in house or virtual call center ones. This is to make sure that they are doing only legitimate business and are only employing these call center agents in accordance with the law.

Drug Test in Call Centers

by Call Center Gal on August 13, 2010

Some call center companies require that applicants pass drug testing as part of their hiring process. Most of the time, they ask the call center applicants to go out with a referral slip to go to their accredited hospital or clinic for such test.

But now, these call center companies can speed up the process by the help of companies who offer drug testing kits to speed up the process. Just like a UK based drug testing company Clmedical, BPO companies can finally know the results in less time by using their drug testing kits to finally aid the progress of the applicant’s hiring process in the company, whether he is a GO or a NO.

On their website, and you will be exposed to a lot of information regarding different types of illegal substances that you should not take of course, and these information also include the different types of drug testing with descriptions on each and instructions on how to use those. Also, they have a portion on the site that provides up to date information about everything that relates to drugs and the newest drug testing sessions available in the market.

I find this important as a lot of interested clients will greatly benefit from it and can pass the useful information that they have on their site. So if you have some time later, take a chance to look it up on the net to check the latest information about drug testing and Clmedical’s drug testing kits.

Stream Global Services to Add 250 Call Center Jobs

by Call Center Gal on August 14, 2010

If there was a sad news before like this  Hilton Reservations Call Center closure, now one call center is flagging otherwise.

This is so because Watertown based call center Global Services got a new account and therefore adding more than 250 jobs in their workforce.

The new account is revealed as a U.S.-based health care benefits company, and will therefore have Stream’s call center agents to aid their Medicare enrollment support.

“We are extremely excited about our newest client being added in the Watertown site,” Stream Chairman and Chief Executive Officer R. Scott Murray said in a news release. “Building on the world-class support team that currently exists in Watertown, Stream will be building an exceptional team of health care support individuals.”

This is really great news as more opportunities are coming in, especially for those who have related call center experience that are living near the area. It was also reported that Stream Global Services will provide the necessary  training for a state insurance license that is required to work for this client.

By the way, I checked that there’s Stream Global Services Philippines as well. I just hope that they would also acquire new clients so that a lot more people will be given call center jobs in the Quezon City area.

Short Term Health Insurance

by Call Center Gal on July 11, 2010

Nowadays, there are some call centers or small bpo set up companies in North Carolina who provide only a per project employment. And so this short term employment naturally requires only NC .

But this does not only apply to those who are office employed because short term insurance can also be availed by those who are self employed. This is a welcome development in the insurance business because now, virtually everyone, as long as they are working, can get a health insurance.

Desperate House Husband

by Call Center Gal on July 11, 2010

My husband has gained a lot of weight since he started working in a BPO industry, mostly at night. Prior to that, he used to have the time and the energy to exercise daily like playing basketball or lifting some weights at home. But since working full time at night shift, he had lost much energy and enthusiasm to exercise. I guess it is just a ‘side effect’ of doing night work for most people.

Now he is trying to lose some weight, although still not successful. What could be a good way to do this? Does using a generic Phentermine would do the job or should he just go on a strict diet and force himself to exercise again?

Call Center Bekimon Video

by Call Center Gal on July 24, 2010

I have been away for almost a week, offline because I broke my USB 2.0 wireless router. Anyway, I will share what happened about that in another post. But for the meantime, I want to share with you a very interesting video.

I have posted some controversial calls like the allegedly Dell Call Center conversation, the Citibank Call Center Scandal, the Irish kid Little Becky prank call and the 911 McDonalds Prank Call, that showed the challenges that an aspiring call center agent might encounter and has to conquer in order to survive in the BPO industry.

In addition to that, I also posted a call center attack video where I left a question whether you believe that clip is true or not.

And who would miss the fun times in the training class or on the floor? Like this one call center Papaya Dance and those agents who enjoyed their time by recording the I Will Survive Call Center Video. It really shows the balanced side of doing this job, that there are both challenging times that we need to prepare ourselves for and fun times that we should try to loosen up a bit to fully enjoy the funny moments.

Speaking of funny call center videos, I want to share with you an addition to this roster. This is the .

According to the video description in Youtube, the person on the video is BERN JOSEP PERSIA. What do you think of the video? I am curious to find out where this video was shot, like which call center and branch, etc.

Feel free to share your comments after this post.

Call Center Agents Love Some Pampering Too

by Call Center Gal on August 1, 2010

A lot of people think that working in a call center is like working in a very stressful environment. Well it is, with all the quotas, statistics and metrics that a call center agent has to keep up with, then the stress levels can really be that daunting.

That is why most of the call center sites have addressed these areas for relaxation wherein they can be pampered in these comfortable massage tables for like a 30-minute quick massage before and or after the shift. Well, again, these are only for those call centers that have these extra space and budget to accommodate such additional amenity in their offices.

But for those who are only start ups and still want to give the same pampering to their call center agents, they can outsource a spa company for a couple of days to have them set up their stuff in one corner. This will definitely delight these call agents who experience a lot of stress dealing with their everyday calls for their entire shift.

Call Center Job for Steel Buildings

I am used to take calls as a call center agent before for a lot of different yet interesting accounts like telecommunications, computers, financial, even tech support accounts. But what if you are assigned to take calls for customers of steel buildings?
